Thanks to its favourable agro-climatic conditions, Chile has become a source of European hazelnuts for the United States and Europe.
Hazelnuts are rich in proteins, vitamin E and folic acid. Similar to other nuts, they contain high levels of mono-unsaturated fatty acids, which help to combat heart disease.
Chile is the world’s second biggest exporter of unshelled hazelnuts.
In 2014, hazelnut exports totalled US$ 36 million.
